When thinking of tough, reliable full-size trucks, two options have been on top of the leaderboard for a really long time. In the full-size truck segment, few trucks can outperform the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Each year, these two trucks set out to lead the market, especially in Sioux Falls. But in 2020, which one is the better choice for your driving needs? We've set out to stack up these two great selections to provide a side-by-side analysis so you know which truck is the best fit for you. Let the battle begin!

When in the market for a pickup, performance is often the first thing drivers inspect. It's clear that these two models offer a ton when it comes to power and capability, but finding the right configuration for your needs is important. We start this truck battle by giving an overview on the Ford F150.

The 2020 F-150 offers many engine choices:

  • The standard 3.3L Ti-VCT V6, which produces 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque

  • A High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine for additional performance, which produces 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque

  • A 2.7L EcoBoost® V6, which generates 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque

  • The 3.5L EcoBoost® V6, which produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque

  • The 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 that supplies 395 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque is also available

Next up, The Chevy Silverado. The Silverado 1500 also offers a 6-engine lineup starting with the 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 engine, which revs up 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. Also available is the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine that gives you 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque and is also available with Dynamic Fuel Management technology. Additionally, you can also opt for a 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine, which produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque; and the 3.0L Turbo-Diesel with 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque; or the 2.7L Turbo with 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque.

Who wins the engine comparison? Though both pickups offer six engines to choose from, you can see that the Ford F-150 has a more varied lineup. Also, it includes the engine options that give you more horsepower and torque altogether, out-working the comparable Silverado engine. The advanced powertrain lineup contributes to the F-150 model's best-in-class payload and exceptional towing capabilities.

With the outstanding components under the hood of each truck, you'll be able to move some serious weight. While the Ford and Chevy models can both tow well over 13,000 pounds, there are some differences when it comes to payload capacities. The Ford F-150 sports a best-in-class payload rating thanks to its heavy-duty suspension system and easy handling. When equipped properly, this pickup can haul up to 3,270 pounds in its bed with ease. This makes your worksite duties a breeze or your weekend adventures elevated with access to more gear. On the other hand, you'll find a lesser payload in the Silverado 1500. Because of its less robust lineup of engines, its payload maxes out at 2,250 pounds, which is considerably different. Though still impressive, you may not be able to pack up everything you'd like.
